Ranked Bedwars

Ranked Bedwars is a competitive variant of the classic Bedwars game mode offered on the Hydra Hub Network. This mode introduces an ELO-based ranking system to create fair, skill-based matchmaking and provide players with a structured competitive experience.

Overview

In Ranked Bedwars, players face off in standard Bedwars matches but are matched against opponents of similar skill levels based on their current ELO rating. The mode supports both solo and team formats, with additional ranking constraints to ensure balanced matches.

ELO System

The Ranked Bedwars mode uses an ELO-based rating system to track player performance and assign divisions. Players gain or lose ELO based on match outcomes:

  • Win: +10 to +25 ELO (based on the opponent's rating and performance)
  • Loss: −5 to −20 ELO
  • Disconnection/Quit: −25 ELO
  • Streak bonuses: Winning streaks can increase ELO gains slightly

All new players start with a base ELO of 1000.

Divisions

Players are grouped into skill tiers called divisions, determined by their ELO:

  • Bronze: 0 – 999 ELO
  • Silver: 1000 – 1199 ELO
  • Gold: 1200 – 1399 ELO
  • Platinum: 1400 – 1599 ELO
  • Diamond: 1600 – 1799 ELO
  • Champion: 1800+ ELO

Division icons are displayed in the lobby and during matches to signify rank. Division resets may occur during seasonal updates or competitive resets.

Matchmaking and Lobby Access

Players connect to the Ranked Bedwars mode through the main lobby by interacting with the Ranked Bedwars NPC. This NPC automatically connects players to a division-specific matchmaking lobby based on their current ELO.

Division-Based Matchmaking

The matchmaking system prioritizes creating games with players in the same division. This ensures that:

  • Matches are balanced and fair
  • New players are not overwhelmed by top-tier opponents
  • High-level players compete in a more challenging, rewarding environment

If a sufficient number of players in a specific division are not available, the system may expand the matchmaking pool slightly (within ±1 division range) to minimize wait times.
